🏀 Guide to Youth Sports and Recreation in Rochester MN! ⚽

Rochester is a city that loves to keep kids moving, and the options for young athletes and adventurers are as varied as the families who call this place home. From the ice rink to the swimming pool to the soccer field, there is a place for every child to find their game.

The City of Rochester offers a strong foundation of recreation programming that welcomes everyone. AccessABLE Rec creates adaptive opportunities so kids of all abilities can play, while the Rochester Recreation Center opens its doors for Open Skating, Swimming, Basketball, and Golf throughout the year.

Beyond city programming, much of the youth sports landscape in Rochester is powered by dedicated non-profit organizations. These groups pour countless volunteer hours into coaching, organizing leagues, and building the kind of community where kids learn teamwork alongside their jump shots and their backstrokes.

Families new to the area often wonder how school sports fit into the picture. Public school sports in Rochester begin at the high school level. For younger students, middle school athletics are organized through Community Education or offered as clubs at the individual school level, giving kids a chance to try new sports before high school competition begins. Please note that 7th and 8th graders can participate in certain sports at their assigned high school. More information.
