Do you ever have those days where crap is hitting the fan, or you feel like you are replaying the same scenes every SINGLE day, or you could just wish away certain scenarios from this season of your life? Well, I would do that in a second. Raising tiny human beings is CRAZY and intense. Being a mama of 3 and 5 year old little ladies is one emotional rollercoaster. I was laughing the other day, talking to my girlfriend about all the scenarios that I wish we could skip over, and I thought it would be fun to share with you.
My list of FIGHTS is what I want Jesus to take the wheel on and give me a new and fresh way to respond. Because, guess what? My way is not working, and my kids seem to think mama is enjoying the daily shenanigans of their little drama filled moments.
Scene #1 – Getting out the door! What the heck is it with when you have to leave the house to go to school, church, meeting, the store, whatever, you name it, they have to pee, or find their shoes that have been missing for 4 days, or pick out a snack, or they are hiding from you because they want to stay home? But, my favorite is how determined they are in putting on their own jacket, hat, and shoes……FOR THE LOVE.
Lets just talk about car rides for a minute. Oh my word, I could write a book on my trips in the car with my kids…
Scene #2 – Having two kids in the backseat of my SUV means they each get a window seat and there is space in between them for their chosen loot for the day….. I mean CRAP. I have a rule that they can bring one bag each into the car filled to the brim with whatever toy/junk/notebook/shoe/necklace/fake phone/doll they choose. (Side Note: I end up with 18 bags by the end of the week with all the toys spilled on the floor of my car…carry on…)
Scene #3 – The blazing lights on the ceiling of my car! My 3 year old thinks it is mandatory and essential to have these on every single time we are in the car. Yup, daylight, dusk, night time, nap time are all times where the light needs to be on. So here’s the game that goes on in my car: 3 year old turns on light, and 5 year old first born “rule follower” shuts the light off. repeat. repeat. Tears from both parties….all while I am pulling into Moka for an Iced Jamaican for my “mom-sanity!”
Scene #4 – MUSIC in the CAR. We don’t have DVD players on our roof or seats. We have a good ol’ radio with a USB option. Beautiful, right? In my dream life, I cruise around listening to The Current or some good ol’ 1998 Lauryn Hill, but no, it is the daily fight of my girls wanting to not listen to a playlist or an album, but one song on repeat. The minute we get in the car, the 3 year old starts screaming, “I Believe” (in her language it is “I Be-E”), which is a christian rap song we play in our youth group. Glorious, just the song that gets me motivated for my day.
Scene #5 The Imaginary Dry Erase Board. Yup, this is a thing in the Cass ride. For probably around 2 years now, my almost 6 year old loves to write, draw, sound out words. Which means driving time for me, I have an imaginary white board above my dashboard where I use my right hand to draw letters and images into air for my daughter to interpret when she is requesting how to spell. Half the time, she can’t interpret my letters, or gets mad at me and says I am wrong and she is right. Which is another whole subject: Fighting with your kids like you are siblings. It is super neat. (Sarcasm)
Stay tuned for more MAMA IS GOING TO LOSE IT moments on bedtime routines, eating meals with kids or taking your kids in public….So many good ones to share.
Do you have a MAMA IS GOING TO LOSE IT moment that you want to share? I promise with my whole being that I sincerely love my girls and am so fortunate to be their mama, but this sister needs to hear an AMEN! We are in this mamahood journey together!
