How it started

Lola’s love for hair goes back to childhood when she started braiding her own hair at age twelve. She did such a good job that her classmates didn’t believe she had done it herself. They thought she must have had help from her aunt who was a hairstylist.

Lola’s aunt founded Aunt Velma Palace of Beauty on the West Side of Chicago. As a young girl, Lola took the bus across the city to help at her aunt’s shop.

She started small, cleaning bathrooms and hair tools. She was so interested in styling hair that she didn’t mind doing unpleasant jobs. As she spent more time at her aunt’s shop, her love for haircare grew and she decided to become a stylist.

Lola became a licensed cosmetologist in 1999 and started her own business in 2010. Today, she teaches the art of styling natural hair and caring for hair without the use of harsh chemicals.

Teaching

All Braids and Hair Care’s courses are perfect for someone who wants to improve their skills to style and care for their own hair or start a business of their own.

Lola’s goal is to train students to become successful at hair braiding, and eventually become a master stylist like she is. Currently, All Braids and Hair Care has two course offerings:

In this course, participants learn the biology of hair, as well as the importance of cleaning the work environment and styling tools. Students learn the characteristics of hair growth, loss, and treatments for both.

This course educates on proper care for natural hair. Participants learn the art of natural hair braiding and how to perform other cares like shampooing and oil treatments.

Products

Not only does she style hair, teach, and run a business, she creates products too! In 2019, Lola began creating her own haircare products. Her brand “Aunt Velma’s Inspiration” is named after the aunt that inspired her to get into the business of hairsyling and haircare.

Lola’s all-natural products promote and nurture hair growth for those with textured hair. You can find them on her website.

Looking to the future

Lola has big aspirations for the future of her business. She wants to expand to the Twin Cities and other states too! We have no doubt that she’ll achieve success in whatever she sets her mind to, and we’re so glad she provides this service in Rochester.
