Guide to Thrifting in Rochester MN

Need to find a backup pair of snow pants? How about an extra fan for your guest bedroom or a classic game of Sorry? Look no further than your local thrift store. Rochester has enough of them to keep your thrifting heart–and wallet!–happy. Our Guide to Thrifting in Rochester has both local thrift stores and national chains in one easy guide. Plus, we’ve included a note on what each store is known for.


Yellow Monkey | 1119 7th St NW, Rochester MN

Yellow Monkey

Yellow Monkey sells vintage and upcycled items. With a welcoming kitsch vibe store-front, they make it easy to find home decor perfect for any room of your home. 

What they’re known for: Yellow Monkey is a non-profit that provides employment for individuals with disabilities. Their staff (and resident pups) are incredibly friendly; you will definitely leave with a smile on your face. 

Hours: Monday – Friday, 12 PM – 4 PM and  Saturday, 11 AM – 2 PM

 


The Vintage Rack | Pop-Up Locations

This boutique, second-hand shop is not your typical brick-and-mortar store. Initially a pop-up shop, the Vintage Rack is full of high-quality items that will make you feel runway-ready. Need something altered to suit your style? They can do that too. 

What they’re known for: Retro clothing options making this a super groovy shopping experience. Their motto? “Find your perfect outfit to match your perfect era.” 

 Hours: Follow their Instagram account or website for pop-up hours & unique locations.


 

Clover & Rose | 923 6th St NW, Rochester

The owner of Clover & Rose, a former high school art teacher, has combined some of her favorite passions into one store. Inside, you will find a range of items from home-made soaps and oil paintings to plants and vintage clothes. 

What they’re known for: This store is unique in that it is both a thrift store AND an artisan shop. You can find eclectic items from local artists as well as second-hand items.

Hours: Wednesday: 4 PM – 8 PM, Thursday: 12 PM – 3 PM, Friday: 12 PM – 6 PM, Saturday: 12 PM – 4 PM

 


 

Thrift on Fifth | 400 5th Ave SW #3273, Rochester

Thrift on Fifth is a well-kept secret in Rochester. You can find it tucked away on the lower level of Christ United Methodist Church. Selling gently used clothing for the flat rate of $1 for adult clothes and $.50 for kids’ clothes, Thrift on Fifth is a bargain that you don’t want to miss. Plus, all the proceeds from Thrift on Fifth go directly towards funding Thrive, a non-profit daycare and family center also housed at this location.

Danielle’s Consignment | 2130 Broadway Ave S, Rochester

Danielle’s Consignment Boutique sells quality, gently used & new women’s clothing, shoes, accessories, men’s athletic wear & shoes, Harley Davidson & formal dresses. Check out the ever-changing deals and steals of top designer name brands like Coach, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Tory Burch & More.

What they’re known for: Danielle’s has an incredible selection of shoes and handbags from designer labels.  Her inventory is always changing and provides fresh options. Danielle also donates to local charity organizations and always has 2 full racks of $2 clothes.

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 10 AM – 7 PM, Friday – Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM, Sunday – Closed


 

Kismet Consignment | 601 North Broadway, Rochester

A staple in Rochester since 2004, Kismet has recently changed ownership but continues to sell used clothing and decor items. As of February 1st, they’ve also expanded to sell menswear in their brother store called “Chappie’s.” 

What they’re known for: Kismet is an experience; one truly feels like they are at a boutique while shopping their hand-selected items. Plus, Kismet has a dressing room for your convenience. You can shop (and sell to them) online. 

Hours: Tuesday – Friday 11 AM – 7 PM Saturday 11 AM – 4 PM


 

Chappie’s Consignment for Dudes | 601 North Broadway, Rochester

Chappie’s

Connected to Kismet Consignment store (and run by the same owners) is a new second-hand store just for the dudes in your life. Chappie’s has an eclectic assortment of men’s items including cameras, lamps, wallets, and name-brand clothing. 

What they’re known for: Chappie’s has one-of-a-kind items that you won’t find at a retail store. 

Hours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 PM – 6 PM

 


 

ReFashion Consignment | 1643 Suite A Broadway N, Rochester

With their new location in the Northbrook Plaza, ReFashion has a fresh look and the extra foot traffic to go with it. Refashion consigns name-brand clothing, accessories, home decor, furniture, and art. This is a unique shopping experience with designer clothes on one side and furniture vignettes on the other. 

What they’re known for: ReFashion gets a large amount of luxury home decor and furniture items; these aren’t your standard IKEA pieces. Refashion also prides itself on getting to know customers and consignors alike. It’s a fun atmosphere where you’re sure to find something you love.

Hours: Monday – Saturday, 10 AM – 7 PM and Sunday, 11 AM – 5 PM

 


 

Habitat for Humanity – ReStore | 3034 40th Ave NW, Rochester

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Rochester, MN, is a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center offering new and gently used furniture, appliances, building materials, and more at affordable prices. All proceeds support Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build homes, communities, and hope.

Hours: Wednesday – Friday, 12 PM – 6 PM, Saturday, 9 AM – 4 PM


 

Plato’s Closet | 3444 55th Street N.W. #360, Rochester

Plato’s Closet has been a leader in teen resale fashion, and Rochester is lucky enough to have one. Located in the Northwest Plaza off 55th Street, Plato’s Closet consigns gently worn clothing with a focus on sustainability. 

What they’re known for: Plato’s styles and prices are geared for teens and young adults. 

Hours: Monday – Saturday, 10 AM – 9 PM | Sunday, 11 AM – 7 PM

 


 

Clothes Mentor | 3851 Marketplace Dr NW, Rochester

Located off Marketplace North, Clothes Mentor buys and sells name-brand clothing, accessories, shoes, and handbags. It’s difficult to walk into Clothes Mentor without finding something that your closet has to have. 

What they’re known for: Clothes Mentor does have stricter buy-back policies as they note on their website. This provides a more up-to-date selection than typical thrift stores. 

Hours: Monday – Friday, 10 AM – 7 PM,  Saturday, 10 AM – 6 PM,  Sunday, 11 AM – 5 PM


 

Janky Gear | 611 N. Broadway, Rochester

Janky Gear sells gently used outdoor sporting equipment along with sporting apparel and shoes. If you’re into yoga, hiking, running, or climbing, this store is a must-stop shop for you.

What they’re known for: They have amazing end-of-the-season sales as they have limited space for new inventory. It’s common to find clearance items for $1. Bonus: They sell used camping gear too!

Goodwill South | 239 28th Street SE, Rochester MN

Goodwill South has a lovely selection of new and like-new items in good condition. One only needs to spend a few minutes perusing the racks to find items with new tags still attached. 

What they’re known for: This Goodwill has a robust women’s shoe selection. Also noteworthy is their large, seasonal selection of new items. 

Hours:  Monday – Friday, 10 AM – 8 PM, Saturday, 10 AM – 7 PM,  Sunday,10 – 6 PM

 


 

Goodwill North | 1987 Scott Road NW, Rochester MN

This is a highly trafficked goodwill; there is a constant line of cars at their drop-off entrance. Likewise, this Goodwill regularly turns product. A person could find completely different items within the span of a day at this location. 

What they’re known for: This Goodwill gets new merchandise every day. They are the more popular drop-off location of the two in Rochester, and generally have a larger variety of all items including furniture and clothing. 

Hours: Monday- Friday, 10 AM – 8 PM,  Saturday, 10 AM – 7 PM, Sunday, 10 AM – 6 PM 


 

Savers | 1201 Broadway Ave S, Rochester

A popular chain throughout the US, Savers in Rochester is located on South Broadway in the Crossroads Shopping Center. It is chock full of items. While this can feel overwhelming to some, it’s a treasure hunter’s dream come true for others. 

What they’re known for: This location has a large selection of clothing, linens, books, and household items. Donate your items to receive 20% off your next in-store purchase. 

Hours:  Monday – Saturday, 10 AM – 9 PM,  Sunday, 10 AM – 7 PM


 

CHILDREN’S THRIFT STORES

Once Upon a Child | 3432 55th St NW, Rochester

Rochester’s Once Upon a Child is one of the best in Minnesota. This well-organized location sells used children’s clothing at a fraction of what you would pay for new items. Clothing sizes range from preemie/newborn to size 16. They also carry a large number of shoes ranging from size 0 to size 4 youth. 

What they’re known for: They have a large selection of like new items for all seasons. In addition, they often have sales such as “5 for 15 sleepwear” or “40% off swimwear.” 

Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:30 AM – 8 PM,  Saturday, 9:30 AM – 8 PM,  Sunday, 10 AM – 6 PM 


 

The Children’s Exchange | 1249 Marion Rd. SE, Rochester

The Children’s Exchange has been in operation since 1986. A local staple in Rochester, they have stood the test of time and continue to offer like-new clothing for children as well as maternity clothes at a fraction of new prices. They also sell toys, bikes and more. Follow them on Facebook for regular updates of new items.

What they’re known for: They have the largest second-hand maternity selection in Rochester. They have items such as nursing covers, maternity pants & dresses, and nursing tops. They also have competitive buyback rates. 

Hours: Monday-Fridays, 9 AM – 7 PM  Saturday, 9 AM – 5 PM Sunday, 11 AM – 5 PM
