Five Reasons to Visit the Kasson State Theatre

Kasson State TheatreI’m going to share with you one of the hidden gems in Dodge County, Minnesota. Did you know that Kasson has its very own movie theatre? We’ve been able to frequent the theatre over the last few years, and we are so excited to spread the joy this place brings to our family and community in SE Minnesota.

Before I go much further, here’s a little history lesson: The Kasson State Theatre was built in 1937 as a movie theater, later home to many churches, then remodeled back into a theatre in 1998. The building boasts beautiful bright neon lights that will excite all ages when pulling up to the curb!

So without further ado, below are my family’s top five reasons why we love the Kasson State Theatre:

One: NEON + Frequent Movie Rotations

This single-screen theatre rotates movies very frequently. The almost weekly rotation creates a sense of urgency for us to keep up with the most current showing, make plans, attend, rinse & repeat! Don’t let the small size of this historic theatre fool you, the Kasson State Theatre owner takes pride in lining up a wide variety of movies to appeal to all ages and families at all stages in life and creates a perfect opportunity for grandparents + grandkids, date nights, or family outings.

Two: Snacks

If your kids love movie snacks as much as our son does [**Hello, popcorn + M&Ms**], the Kasson State Theatre concession stand is *on point* with their movie going offerings. Of course they have the staples: popcorn, candy, and fountain drinks (available offerings based on community survey responses!!), but they also splurged to purchase a brand new fountain drink station and a slushy machine in 2021. Couple these amenities with the BIG screen and you have the makings of an ultimate movie experience.

Three: Recent Upgrades & More Planned

In March of 2020 right before the COVID shutdown, the Kasson State Theatre changed ownership. Under this new ownership, the theatre has undergone quite a few upgrades, but they aren’t done yet: repairs to the roof and stucco, new lobby flooring, bathroom upgrades, fresh paint, and other improvements have been made to the theatre to keep it updated and in great condition. Future projects include: heated, leather recliners, and the possibility of a second small screen to allow for showing two movies at once. The new Pepsi machine is sure to meet your movie going needs and don’t forget free refills with the *large* purchase!

Four: Extremely Friendly Staff

The customer service is always top notch! The team loves serving the community and takes great pride at making sure that all guests have an outstanding experience. Additionally, sound engineering is completed for each and every movie to ensure the perfect balance is achieved. Frequent polls on their Facebook page help guide candy, soda, and slushy flavor selections available to movie goers. The theatre is always SPOTLESS and the staff is always smiling while serving and inviting patrons to visit again soon.

Five: Private Showings

Did you know that you can rent out the movie house? What a great opportunity to host a private showing of your favorite movie for a kid’s birthday, anniversary celebration, or even a family reunion! The opportunities are endless and the theatre continues to evolve under its newer management. My family encourages you to check it out for yourself and reserve your date today!
