Over the last few months, I have heard the same question many times over. “Why Rochester MN Moms Blog?” Honestly, my only answer has been, “Why NOT Rochester MN Moms Blog?”
Why not have a place for moms to connect over the exciting and mundane?
Why not have a platform for moms with different perspectives to respectfully agree to disagree?
Why not have a site dedicated to promoting local businesses so local moms can support them on purpose?
For a long time, I had admired these types of sites in other cities and had hoped that someone might bring something like this to our town. After looking over my shoulder for that “someone” too many times to count, something inside me clicked. This was something I wanted and needed to do for my community.
Born and raised in Rochester MN, I have been an unofficial ambassador for this city for as long as I can remember. Don’t get me wrong–there was a time in my 20’s when I moved back from college and thought living in my hometown was practically the worst thing on the face of the planet. Then something happened: I can pretty much remember the day and where I was. Where I was sitting, what I was doing, or more realistically-what I wanted to be doing. My attitude shifted. This was MY place and I would own it. From then on, I carried a pride for this city. I love the roots of innovation in the Mayo Brothers, the diversity of our ever-changing national and international visitors and residents, and the “little-big town” feeling it has seemed to carry for many years.
Since then, I have grown personally and professionally and grown to understand that my passion is to connect people to resources and community. If Rochester MN Moms Blog can quickly connect moms to the community they are looking for, then I’ll be glad I stopped looking over my shoulder for that “someone” to come along to start this resource.
