Rochester, MN, is embracing creativity and community in a beautiful new way, thanks to an inspiring partnership with local artist Cassandra Buck. Residents of Rochester and Olmsted County are invited to participate in an exciting collaborative art project as part of the 2024-2025 Creating Belonging pilot program, organized by MNPAiR (Minnesota Parks Artists in Residence).

The program, running from August 2024 to August 2025, aims to foster a deeper sense of connection and belonging among park visitors by merging the beauty of local parks with the power of art. Cassandra Buck, known for her vibrant community-driven projects and her deep connection to the local art scene, has been chosen to lead this initiative.

“I am excited to work with residents and help bring their ideas to life, using art to reflect the value of our local parks and strengthen community bonds,” Cassandra shares. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and she hopes to inspire residents to see their parks in a new light.

How to Get Involved

Cassandra will host hands-on art workshops at three local parks—Oxbow Park, Quarry Hill Nature Center, and Cascade Lake Park. These sessions are open to residents of all ages and provide an opportunity to collaborate, get creative, and contribute to permanent artwork installations that will grace these parks.

Workshop Schedule:

Oxbow Park Nature Center, Classroom C
5731 County Road 105 NW, Byron

Quarry Hill Nature Center
701 Silver Creek Road NE, Rochester

Cascade Lakeside Building
88 23rd Avenue SW, Rochester

If you’re planning to attend with a large group, be sure to email Cassandra at crbuckrose@hotmail.com to ensure there’s plenty of space and materials available.

Art for a Lasting Impact

The community’s creativity during these sessions will shape the design of permanent artwork that will be installed at Oxbow Park, Quarry Hill Nature Center, and Cascade Lake Park. It’s a unique opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the parks that bring joy and beauty to life in Rochester.

Even if you can’t attend in person, alternative participation opportunities are available. Visit the City of Rochester, Olmsted County, or Quarry Hill Nature Center websites for more details on materials and additional ways to get involved.

This collaborative project, funded by Minnesota’s Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment, is a reminder of how art and nature can unite a community. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this meaningful initiative—mark your calendar, bring your ideas, and let your creativity shine!
