My 5 Favorite Apps

If I’m not consistently intentional, I can waste way too much time every day scrolling through completely unimportant things on my phone – things that leave me feeling drained rather than productive, rested, or encouraged.  Every app aims to serve some purpose!  So instead of telling you all of the apps I think you “need” in this post, these are just apps from my phone that I currently use regularly and actually enjoy, not to mention they serve one of those purposes I listed above.

In no particular order, these are 5 of my current favorite phone apps:

  1. Wunderlist
I am a list maker, through and through.  This simple app makes keeping lists for on-the-go purposes easy.  I have several ongoing lists so that I can add to them when something pops in my head (because if I don’t write it down, it’s very likely I will forget it).  Some of my ongoing lists include items needed from Target, groceries, blog post topic ideas, and seasonal family bucket lists.  Bonus: it’s a cloud-based app!
  2. Podcasts
Since it is 2019, you’re most likely listening to podcasts fairly regularly, so this one comes as no surprise, I’m sure.  I’m usually listening to a podcast while I’m folding laundry each evening and also on the rare occasion I’m driving in my car alone.  My current favorites are Risen Motherhood, the JourneyWomen Podcast, The Real Life Podcast, and Christy Wright’s Business Boutique.
  3. Kindara
Alright ladies, are you tracking your cycles yet??  If so, insert all the applause emojis here.  If not, this is one of the awesome apps out there that makes tracking your symptoms and cycle literally as simple as pressing a few buttons.  This is not only useful for trying to conceive or avoiding pregnancy – being able to identify the signs your body tells you every day about its state of health is incredibly useful for many reasons.  Another favorite app I have for this same purpose is the Fertility Friend App (I may or may not use both apps just to have the most accurate charting).
  4. Feedly
This app is a convenient, organized way to read blogs.  You just add which sites you want to follow along with, categorize them as you wish, and then go to one place to read anything that’s new from every site.  I also appreciate that from within the app, you can share a post, bookmark it, and click over to the website if you wish.
  5. Goodreads
For my fellow book lovers or those who desire to read more, this app is like a very calm social media app for books.  I love using it as a place to keep my to-read list, read others’ ratings and opinions of books, find recommendations from friends, and even make reading goals.  It’s not one of those sorts of social media apps where I find myself sometimes feeling “addicted” to it (bleh), but instead is a fun app to check once or twice a week to update my reading status and see what my friends are currently reading.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Lumosity – a fun way to exercise my brain each day
  • Zillow – I love looking at houses (all over the country) and watching market trends
  • Thrive Market – my favorite online source for health foods and supplements
  • YouVersion Bible App – makes reading possible wherever I am (love.)
  • Pinterest – mostly for new recipes and indoor activities ideas for my kiddos
  • Instagram – because of course.
